When is a calendar not a calendar?

When it's the Calendar stamp used as a card design.  Let's face it, you don't want to buy a stamp that you can only do one thing with, right?  I mean, after you stamp a calendar what are you going to do with it, put it up until next year when you need a calendar again?  No, you are going to think outside the box and make cute things with it. I have some projects listed here that show you just how versatile the Calendar stamp can be for anything but a calendar! I have been playing with this idea for awhile now and want to post a couple of samples. I am working on boxes and others things using this grid technique and it is so much fun!

The first is a card that looks like a bingo card, which are very hot in the scrapbooking world right now! For this card I inked the first 4 blocks and the open space at the top of the stamp, except for the parenthesis, with the Chocolate Chip marker and stamped on Whisper White Cardstock. I used my Blender pen to take away the unwanted ink from the over stamp, however, I didn't get it all.  I will try harder next time. I love the little punch tag attached to the Soft Suede Ribbon and the Mini Library Clip is perfect to attach it. I stamped the tag with the heart in Melon Mambo (stamp off once) and the "love" stamp from Tiny Tags stamp set. Soft Suede polka dot ribbon was perfect for this card to tone down some of the bright colors. I stamped Things I Love with Crushed Curry, Chocolate Chip (hey, you have to have the work chocolate when you are stamping chocolate!), and Melon Mambo. The hearts were punched with my paper piercing tool and a heart punched from the new little heart punch in the Occasions Mini as a template.

This one is a little more subtle use of the calendar grid. I stamped a few blocks with Pretty in Pink and cut out what I needed.  This makes a soft grid for placement of flowers and sentiment.  The picture doesn't do this card justice. I stamped the flower once with Pretty in Pink and stamped over it again in Soft Suede. The open pattern of the Vintage Vogue flower allows some of both colors to show for a very nice effect.  LOVE was stamped with Fundamental Phrases. I stamped the other Vintage Vogue flowers and vines in the background. The scallop rectangle is chocolate chip and punched with our scallop edge punch. The Whisper White base was run through the Big Shot with the new Textured Impressions Folder, Perfect Polka Dots for the dotted swiss look. I used pink brads from Circle Fire Rhinestone Brads in the center of each flower. To finish off I used our new luscious 5/8" satin Chocolate Chip ribbon from the new Occasions Mini catalog and tied a full bow.

I have several more projects, think boxes and envelopes, and after I finish a few details on them I will post them, probably Monday, but my sweet husband is working on my stamp room today and I want to get it finished so I will be helping him today. I Heart Lists

Saturday was our upline/downline/sideline meeting which included a shoebox swap where we bring supplies to make a project all in a box.  Mine was a little notebook that can be dropped in your purse or left on the counter for grocery lists, notes to the kids, whatever you want. 

These are very simple to make and I got the idea from someone who made them for her downline at Leadership and tweeked them a bit to make them my own.. I can't find the link so I don't remember who it was. If this was your idea let me know and I'll give you credit.  These are a different size than the ones I saw and a few other things are different so basically I got the idea of folding over the paper and that is where the similarities end.  I used Kraft cardstock (102125 - 40 sheets for $7.50 ) for the notebook cover and simple copy paper cut to size for the inside. Two holes were punched on the top with the Crop A Dile (108362 - $29.95) and  White Taffeta ribbon (10907 -10 yds $6.95) threaded through to tie the book together. This taffeta ribbon ties a bow beautifully!  The heart is made up of two layers - the bottom layer punched from the Scalloped Heart of Hearts embosslit die (117332 - $11.95), which means it embosses and cuts out the heart with one pass through the Big Shot die cutting machine (113439 - $99.95) and the Full Heart punch (113693 - $15.95) using Chocolate Chip cardstock for the base layer (102128 - 24 sheets $5.50) and Welcome to the Neighborhood Designer Series Paper (Sale-a- Bration brochure 118401 - FREE with $50 merchandise purchase). Layered together these remind me of the paper lace doilies valentines we made as kids. The 3/4" Circle Punch (107217 - $10.95) was used to punch out the letters for "i lists" again using the FREE Sale-a-Bration Welcome to the Neighborhood Designer Series Paper and Jumble Alphabet (115199 - $43.95) which is a quirky set with all sizes shapes and designs of letters. Imagine a ransom note and you have an idea of what this would look like! LOL! On the close up you can see the little "notes" tag stamped from Tiny Tags  in the new Occasions Mini (118592 - $16.95 for clear mount)  held with the Mini Library Clip (109857 - 48 for $12.95), so cute! It was punched with the new style punch Medium Jewelry Tag (117190 - $10.95). I guess that is about it. I think from now on I will put a supply list at the end of my post insted of putting it throughout the post, seems distracting to me.  Watch for my post with a new twist on the Calendar stamp (109298 $17.95) It's not just for calendars anymore!!  Have a great day!

 

 

Sweet Pea Office Accessories

I have the cutest little office cups to show you but first I have to share a funny story and I know today will be a better day.  Yesterday was my husbands birthday and he had to be out of town.  I made a birthday card for him over the weekend and decided to hide it in his computer bag so he would have it on his bbirthday.  I called him, wished him a happy birthday and told him to look in the side pocket of his computer bag for a surprise.  He called me later and said he had gone through the entire bag and there was nothing in there. Suddenly I had a sinking feeling and went to MY computer bag (we both have black computer bags) and looked in MY side pocket and there it was! Oh no!!! So, we both had a good laugh and he will get his card when he comes home.  I will share his card with you.  It is sealed in our clear envelope so that is the reason for the shine. It's a little tame compare to his card from last year which you can see here.

 

This is made with our Thoroughly Modern Designer Series paper. I just love the colors in this paper, Bermuda Bay, what a gorgeous blue, and Sahara Sand, yum! The background is Soft Suede which is an ever changing color depending on what you put it next to.  Love it! OK, on to the Sweet Pea office accessories.  I found my self needing more containers to hold all those upright things I am always reaching for, rulers, scissors, etc, and I had some empty vegetable cans that I had washed thoroughly so I reached for my new Sweet Pea Designer Paper Stack - yes, stack! This paper pad has 48 double sided sheets of the most stinkin' cute paper you have ever seen. I will have to post a clip board I made yesterday with the zany bird, but that is another post.  To go along with this paper stack Stampin' Up! has brought us Sweet Pea Stitched Felt that is adorable!  You know the felt pieces are all the rage and these are incredible, as is everything Stampin' Up! comes out with.  Quality is always tops with SU products.  Item numbers for these two are 117161 for the paper, priced at $24.95 and the stitched felt is 117266, 52 pieces for $7.95.  I covered the cans with the designer paper and since I love polka dots I had to use one of the polka dots, yes just one - there are about 6 patterns and some really cute hounds tooth, in pink!  Anyway, I used a large patterns well to make it a little more focal and because I loved it and thought it would look great with the felt pieces on it so here they are.

I made a lollipop flower for the biggest can. Some call these rosettes, but whatever you choose to call them make some for yourself, so easy.  Bling them up, sponge them, have fun! These are so cute, quick for an added embellishment. You can see one I used on a card a long time ago for a friends birthday here. OK, that's all for now. I have a messy stamp room to clean up after so I can make another mess with my wild paper cutting! Mark the Date Calendar Class for the New Year! CLASS FULL

 

Can you believe it's the first day of 2010.  Where has the time gone! Our New Years Eve was very low key with a couple of the grandkids staying over and it was lights out by 10:30 for us and the little one. I can tell I am getting old, yesterday I forgot it was New Years Eve!!  I am ready for a fresh start, a wonderful new year full of opportunities and family and lots of stamps and paper! So let's get on to the first project for the new year.  Check out this little desktop or counter top calendar for 2010 made with the Mark the Date stamp set. It stands up so you can flip the pages. Or, attach a ribbon and hang it on the wall, fridge, you get the idea.  It's made with chipboard and coasters so it is very sturdy.   I will be doing a class for this calendar next Saturday at Stampin' In the Park at Northpark Baptist Church on Deerfoot Parkway in Trussville at 1 PM.  Please contact me if you would like to be in this class.  We will use a stencil, the new little stitched felt flowers from the new mini catalog, and much more including the Bind It All to hold it all together.
