Swine Flu...it's not for sissies

Swine flu, it's everywhere, and has touched my friends and family as it probably has yours.  My grandson and a dear friend both had the flu so I wanted to make a card for them to cheer up their day.  I dug around in my retired stamps to find a set that I absolutely love and will never part with, Farm Fever, a 4 stamp set that has the cutest stamps for anyone who is sick. The biggest stamp is a pig in bed with a thermometer in his mouth...how cute is that for someone with Swine Flu! Here are the two cards I sent. I printed off the sentiment about Swine Flu on my computer of course.  The first card uses circle punches for a fun look.  The second card uses Kaleidoscope Designer Series Paper from Stampin' Up! along with Melon Mambo polka dot ribbon.

         

That's my Blast From the Past for this week.  I think I'll dig out more retired stamps from time to time and post cards.  I have so many that I love!

Thoroughly Modern File Folder Baby Album

A very sweet friend of mine recently had a baby and I made her a little baby album from the Thoroughly Modern File Folders and Gusseted Envelope, using All In The Family stamp set and accessories. The name on the front is blurred and the initial of the baby hanging from the star is blurred. I followed the pattern of the file folder with the Thoroughly Modern DSP throughout the album.  I have seen a few albums made with these file folders but they are always cut square with all tabs and overhangs removed.  To me, these little overhangs and tabs make the album interesting and provides an opportunity to do unexpected decorative things in an album.  This album is really simple, allowing the recipient to add to it if desired or use as is.  Since my friend is a demo and a longtime scrapper she may want to bling it up a bit.  I can see ribbons and tabs coming out of the top for example.  Here are the pics and that is all I am going to say about this project other than, I forgot to get a picture of the page that says baby, there is a pull up tab for hidden journaling, keepsakes, or additional pictures.  I will be doing a class using these file folders to make an album so stay tuned!!

Halloween Card from My Digital Studio

Another share from My Digital Studio. I have had so much fun working with this program.  This is a standard 5-1/2 x 4-1/4 card.  I have this card designed to my satisfaction, so now I can go to my scrap room and recreate it on paper or I can print it out on my printer if I choose or send it out for print.

Now I am going to work on scrapbook pages so that I can have a scrapbook printed with the printer Stampin' Up! has chosen to print the My Digital Studio projects. I will be assured of accurate SU colors and high quality printing. Of course, you can certainly print these on your own printer, but the colors may not be true and I want it matchy matchy.  <G>

My Digital Studio

Stampin' Up! has done it again. My Digital Studio is an awesome design studio that lets you make cares, scrapbook pages, calendars, and so much more!   Another great product that is so much fun and easy peasy to use. I loaded my software yesterday, played around with the buttons and tried out lots of features and came up with this page of my little grandson playing with his somersaulting Tigger. I am a hands on paper girl for scrapbooking and card making, but this fits in nicely and is a compliment to the whole manual process.  Most of this was done while sitting with my hubby watching television last nite. I can design scrapbook pages without wasting one piece of paper, then I can make them in my stamp room if I like.   Another option is to send them out for printing and  make multiples for everyone. Or I can do both!  This will be a wonderful tool for designing cards, calendars and anything else I can think of to do with it.  I have to admit I was resistant to the idea of digital scrapbooking, loving how I get lost in my paper world.  But I have to say, I liked being able to sit there and design this whole page and not get up to go get another punch, or find more cardstock.  Now mind you, I love doing that most of the time and this will never replace my paper world (sorry honey) but I do enjoy it as another facet to my scrapbook/cardmaking/stamping world. 

The words I wanted shadows on but didn't get that accomplished, and I didn't get the tag the size I wanted, but I think it was just cockpit error and I had to stop at some point.  Hey, for a couple of hours of playing around I think it's a great page!  I'll figure it out.  This is a kinda busy page, but I was playing around with all the elements and trying everything...buttons, punches, scrapbooking kit elements, hardware, you name it, but that's okay...when I look back on this page I'll remember how much fun I had discovering the bells and whistles of My Digital Studio design software.  And my little buddy and his Tigger will be where it all started! Isn't he the custest!  I am excited about the Christmas elements in this software since I am getting geared up for Christmas now.  I love Christmas! 
OK, I am going to send this to my daughter.  I can't get her interested in scrapbooking but maybe she would like to do the digital version.  Enjoy!

 

More Sweet Treats and a Hot Air Balloon

I am having fun with these Sweet Treat Cups from Stampin' Up! and I really need to reorder.
OK, back to the Sweet Treat Cups,  I have made several for myself and used them in classes so I am almost out and must order a couple or three or four packages to get me through the Halloween season. A dozen Sweet Treat Cups with an adhesive rim come in a package, Item # 116802, 12 for $2.95, and there is the option of ordering padded envelopes to mail them in, Item # 116911, 3 for $2.95. The Sweet Treat Cups are only available until January 4 in the Holiday Mini so stock up for Valentine's Day.  there is a super cute heart stamp in the Sweet Centers in the mini catalog you will LOVE for Valentine's.  I'll post a project on that one later.  And you don't have to put candy in them, it could be buttons, money, a diamond ring for your sweetie.   Sweet Centers stamp set is $29.95 for 6 stamps, but Sept 1 - Nov 30 by hosting a $250 workshop or order and any item in the Holiday Mini is $10, with the exception of the My Digital Studio or Build A Bear.                             

Details on this card:
Cardstock:  Old Olive base, Whisper White and Real Red. I also used the Real Red cardstock to make a 2" Circle to back the Sweet Treat Cup to hold the treats in. Designer Series Paper (DSP) Pink Flamingo.  Accessories:  Chocolate Chip 1/4" Grosgrain Ribbon, Funky Forest Wheel, Scallop Edge Punch, 3/4" and 1/2" Circle Punch, 1-3/4" Circle Punch, which fits the Sweet Treat Cup perfectly...love when everything matches, Paper Piercer, Dimensionals, Modern Label Punch, Word Window Punch, Teeny Tiny Wishes. Ink:  Chocolate Chip and Old Olive. Jelly Belly Jelly Beans, Sweet Treat Cup.
I promise you, these will be so much fun to play with. Think outside the box, punch a hole in a box with your 1-3/4" Circle Punch and add a Sweet Treat Cup with a surprise in it. Punch a lunch bag for the kids and add a treat, maybe a reese's cup, goldfish, whatever will fit. OK, it has been a great Labor Day with ribs and chicken and slaw and potato salad and tomatoes and chips and baked beans and garlic bread and ...................goodnight.

Sweet Treats for my poor neglected blog

Little blog, I lied to you, I said I would post more but I didn't. Please forgive me!  The sad thing is, I like to post, I have plenty of stuff to post but it just seems to take forever to "get it ready". The pics, the resizing, cropping, labeling, writing the description and supplies used, which I sometimes neglect to do. So I put it off but not today. I have cards from hostess club, I have a new Sweet Treats card using the flower with M&M's. Yum!  We are using M&M's as a reward for my two year old grandson with potty training ....works like a charm! I ran out of Jelly Beans so opted for M&M's.  He won't mind. OK, so let's get to the cards, that is why we are here.

I call this a double message card because it flips open twice. I don't know if there is a name for it, probably, but since I don't know what it is it will be a double message card for now.
Card Stats: Melon Mambo base, Old Olive strip run through the Big Shot with the Perfect Details Texture Plate (I dampened the cardstock before running it through and it did a much better impression). I think the flip side of this texture plate would be perfect for the leaves, and although I didn't do it this time I do plan to try it. Crushed Curry, Chocolate Chip, Whisper White. Flower petals were stamped in Melon Mambo and dotted with the Stampin' Up! white gel pen. The leaves were stamped in Old Olive and dotted with the white gel pen as well. The sentiment is from the Level 2 Hostess Set Wings of Friendship and was stamped in Old Olive Classic Ink, and embossed with Clear Embossing Powder then punched out with the Large Oval Punch and  framed with Crushed Curry punched with the Curly Label punch, paper pierced and sponged with Chocolate Chip Classic Ink. Chocolate Chip 5/8" grosgrain ribbon was threaded through a silver jumbo grommet.  I didn't put the grommet through the paper but instead for this instance merely bent the prongs in and attached with glue dots. The Sweet Centers Treat Cup has an adhesive lip on it so after filling with the yellow M&M's, which look very much like Crushed Curry, I peeled the protective paper off and attached a 2" circle of cardstock to the back to hold the M&M's in, then inserted through the hole punch out with the 1-3/4" Circle Punch, which fits the Sweet Treat cups perfectly. I love it when everything matches not only paper and ink wise but tool wise as well.  Below are pictures of the card when the Curly Label tab is pulled up and when card is open to Chocolate Chip layer and then to Melon Mambo layer.

This shows the layers as the card is standing. Note about the Sweet Treat Cups, make the card in a tent manner, cutting at 4.25 x 5.50 instead of the other way around. Otherwise the Sweet Treat Cups are too heavy and the card falls over.
